My passion for personal development has definitely been a talking point at times. It’s something that I’ve noticed people are quite intrigued by and seek to understand better. Some people get it completely because they share the same passion, while others question it and see it as a sign of discontent. Within the second group of people, it has been suggested that this constant desire for improvement could be seen as an attempt to change myself as a result of not being happy or content with who I am.

I’ve wanted to write a post that articulates my thoughts on emotional intelligence training and for some time I hope to convey what personal development means to me and why exactly I am so passionate about it.

Personal development is…

…fulfilling my potential.

…never wondering what if.

…grabbing my dreams out of the clouds and making them happen…one by one.

…doing as much as I can before my time is up.

…never wishing if only…

…breaking out of the box.

…removing the limits.

…being the best that I can be.

…facing each and every one of my fears and then doing the things that they were standing in the way of.

…making the most of my one and only life.

…squeezing the most out of every minute.

…really living.

…feeling completely alive.

For me to live in this world and not do everything I can to make the most of every day is like:

…going to the beach and not swimming in the sea.

…going to the funfair and not going on any rides.

…walking past roses everyday and not stopping to smell them.

…going to the best restaurant in the world and only eating salad.

…going to see the greatest film ever only to sleep through it.

Personal development isn’t about changing who I am. It’s about embracing who I am and all that life has to offer. It’s about stripping back to the real me by facing the fears and removing the insecurities that I’ve collected through life. It is precisely because I am happy with who I am that I invest so much time in me.

What does personal development mean to you? Do you have a different view or anything to add to the list? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this subject. Please share if you like what I’ve written.
